ALEXANDER LAUKAKILA MCKEAGUE

ALEXANDER LAUKAKILA MCKEAGUE Age 86, family patriarch Alexander Laukakila McKeague passed away March 12 following surgery at Tripler. Born in Kealakekua on August 28, 1924 to parents Marian Kelley and Jack "Kila" Laukakila McKeague. Raised in Kealia, Kauai . Age16, worked on a tugboat for Hawaiian Dredging. Age 17 during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, spending that day shuttling sailors from Ford Island, clearing debris and bodies from the harbor while dodging strafing bullets. Age 21 enlisted in the U.S. Army and served primarily in the European sector where he would meet his wife, Hildegard Woelky of Germany. Briefly deployed to Japan to serve in support of the Korean War and also served in the Vietnam War, retiring from the military in 1967. He worked a decade as a Car Salesman in Waihawa, then worked for the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard until retirement. A devout 7th Day Adventist, he would spend the rest of his life dedicated to the Lord and his family, specifically his wife, being her primary caregiver until her death in June of 2006. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle, he is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Hildegard, his son, Roland and daughter-in-law, Ulrike, brothers Jared, Gregory, Joseph, Albert, and John McKeague, and sister Marian Ishikawa. He is survived by sons, Melvin and Mark Kawika McKeague, daughter-in-law, Dorin McKeague, grandchildren Kelvin and Nicole, great grandchildren Kaden McKeague and Pepper Nascimento, brothers Stanley McKeague and Kelmar Weeks, sisters Millie Kahalekai, Evelyn Souza, and Puanani Uso. Celebration of Life to be held at Hosoi Mortuary on April 23, visitation at 1000, service at 1100. Internment at Punchbowl on April 26 at 1030, public welcomed.

HENRY H.C. "HERKY" LAU

Henry H.C. "Herky" Lau April 3, 1928 – March 30, 2011 Henry Lau was the youngest of 13 children born to Joe Kang Lau and Auyoung Shee Lau of Honolulu. He died on March 30, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Priscilla Leong; sons Chris (Phyllis) and Colin (Akiko) Lau; daughters Corianne Lau (Ried Fisher) and Caryn Lau; brother Hing Chock (Beatrice) Lau; sister Thelma (Mrs. Richard Chun) of Lihue; six grandchildren: Christina and Camilla Lau, Jasmine and Callie Fisher, Caitlin and Carter Cameron; and many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Henry was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and the University of Hawaii. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the Air Transport Command of the Army Air Corps in Shanghai and Tokyo. After his enlistment he enrolled at UH. He was a member of the Hawaii Air National Guard and was honorably discharged as a major in the Air Force Reserve. Henry was a career civil service member of the Territory of Hawaii, the Federal government, the City and County of Honolulu, and the State of Hawaii. He retired from the State Department of Planning and Economic Development where he was the Administrative Services Officer in charge of personnel, budgeting, and other services, including drafting of legislation and legislative testimony. After his retirement in 1983 he served as a researcher and management consultant to the City, State, and non-profit organizations. During his government service he held various assignments: personnel specialist with City and Federal agencies; Personnel Officer, Department of Land and Natural Resources; Executive Assistant to the City Director of Finance; and Senior Budget Analyst with the Department of Budget and Finance. Although he was in the career civil service, Henry also served briefly in the appointive positions of State Deputy Director of Personnel Services and as the Deputy to the Chairman, Hawaiian Homes Commission. A memorial service will be held at the First Chinese Church of Christ, 1054 S. King St., Honolulu on Saturday, April 23, 2011. Visitation: 9:30 a.m.; Services at 11:00 a.m.. JAMES LEE SWEDBERG

JAMES LEE SWEDBERG James Lee Swedberg died of a massive heart attack on Friday, April 8, 2011, two days before his seventy-fifth birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Florence Swedberg, his brothers John Gray and Gerald Swedberg, and his sister Virginia Zwicke. His sister Genevieve Cavanaugh survives. Jim was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 10, 1936. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Oahu, in 1956, got his BS from New Mexico State in 1959, and an MS from the University of Arizona in 1979. A lifelong Missouri Synod Lutheran. Jim gave selflessly to his church, his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He is survived by Kay, his wife of 54 years, his daughters Jennifer Bohnhoff and husband Henry of Albuquerque, NM, Wendy Macdonald and husband Robert of Duxbury, MA, Heather Patrick and husband Robert of Alamogordo, NM, and Heidi Swedberg and husband Philip Holahan of Los Angeles, CA. His grandchildren are Matt, James and John Bohnhoff, Sarah Macdonald, and Oona and Lyra Holahan. In lieu of flowers, please give generously of your time and talents to your house of worship.

JOHANNA JIM PANG "JoJo" Johanna Yar Kin Chang Jim Pang (89) of Honolulu, and Sweden died on April 6, 2011. Born and raised in Honolulu, she graduated from McKinley High School class of 1940. Worked at C. Q. Yee Hop Limited for 38 years. Retired in 1992 and moved to Malmo, Sweden where she married James Wai Hoon Pang of Honolulu and Malmo, Sweden. Past President of Oo Syak Gee Lu Society. Also remembered by many as "Queen of Chinatown" in her role as Sales Manager for C.Q.Yee Hop where she visited the restaurants and worked with the kitchen chefs and cooks. Was an active member of Chef's de Cuisine Honolulu, part time outside sales representative and tour guide for Panda Travel. In 1992 she moved to Malmo, Sweden where with her husband James Pang, she worked at "Mike's Corner" in Malmo and greeted everyone with a smile. A wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, auntie and friend, JoJo was married to Michael (Mickey) S. G. Jim (deceased), for over 40 years, and was married to James W.H. Pang for over 18 years Survived by daughter Michele Jim, hanai daughters Anna Doell and Lori Kekaula, sons, Mitchell Jim (Starlina), Myron Jim (Merna), stepson Michael Pang Gyllander (Yvla). Grand children – Andrew Chun (Kelley Ann), Gerard Chun, Jason Chun (Vicky), Edmund Chun, Daniel Bradbury (Johanna) Alison Jim, John Bradbury, Karen Kam-Jim Kama (Jason), Kristin Jim, Kelli Ann Jim, Natalie Pang Gyllander, Michelle Pang Gyllander, and hanai grand daughter Rhiannon Chandler. LORNA LOUISE "LONI" XIXIS Lorna Louise "Loni" Xixis, 67, of Waipahu, passed away on January 14, 2011. The loving daughter of Mary Lou and Hugh Douglas McKenzie. Loni was a long time employee of Royal Cruise Line and served as their territory sales manager for 10 years. Prior to that, she worked in Advertising Sales and as a Travel Agent. Loni was born in Oakland, California and moved to Hawaii in 1964. Loni was an avid traveler and enjoyed researching her family's genealogy. She is survived by her husband Dimitri, son Kip Murchison, daughter Kari Nettel, and grandchildren Kyle Murchison, Daniel Murchison, Douglas Nettel and Marlo Nettel. Loni's ashes will be scattered off shore of Diamond Head during a private ceremony on April 30th. April 5, 2011 Tamao "Eddie" Nakata, 83, of Aiea, founder and owner of Holiday Mart Barber and Beauty Shop (now Pearl City Barber Shop), died in Honolulu. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by sons Sam and Nelson, stepdaughters Priscilla "Noni" Cummings and Evangeline "Nami" Nakata, sister Molly Fujimoto, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. VALENTINE ON WONG SR.

VALENTINE ON WONG SR. Also known as Val Wong, age 91 of He`eia, Kaneohe passed away on April 4, 2011 at Castle Medical Center Kailua. Born November 18, 1919 in He`eia to Henry Ah Tong-Wong and Lucy Scott-Wong, was the fifth child of eight. He attended St. Ann's School and St. Louis College graduating in 1937. Upon graduation, worked his first job with Ho Min Ice Cream Co. then for Castle and Cooke and retired from Matson Navigation Honolulu Terminal as Vessel Superintendent with 45 years of service. After retiring from Matson, he became an avid golfer, spent many days at his Brother Henry's Waikalua fishpond with nephews Heine and Gordon Wong and cousin Elaine Haitsuka. Then would visit He`eia Kea Pier after the fishpond was sold. He was a man of very few words, but when he spoke one listened. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years Kumu Hula Mary Keolalaulani McCabe-Wong, and four children, oldest daughter Theresa Lokelani Igarashi Anderson, second daughter Josephine Kahiliopua Wong-Brentlinger, oldest son Valentine "Valdie" Wong Jr. and third daughter Agnes Ponimo`i Wong Nishioka. Also by all seven of his siblings: Francis, Henry, Benny, Paul, Leonard, Scotty and sister Ruby Kahiapo. He was the last of the founding family of Kaneohe and St. Ann's Church. He leaves behind four children: Nick Wong, Mathias "Macky" Wong (Marlene), Kumu Hula Aloha Dalire, and Antoinette "Toni" Wong: daughter-in-law Valerie P. Wong, son-in-law Clyde Nishioka, and hanai son Edward "Eddie" Young (Marie). 11 Grandchildren: Regina Igarashi, Michael Wong (Kaylene), Nathan Wong, Nicole Wong, Kevin Nishioka, Kendric Nishioka (Sheena), Shirlene Wong, Joe-Mac Wong, Na Kumu Hula Kapua Dalire-Moe (Tino), Kaui Dalire, and Keolalaulani Dalire. 24 great-grandchildren: Pua`ala, Hi`ilei, and Kanalu Pascua, Christine and Victoria Wong, Ka`imi and Kanoa Wong, Ka`io and Peyton Nishioka, Macky Boy Wong Hurdle, Ashley Kili and Daniel Kahoku Lai, Manaia, Mana, Ma`a, Malie, and Masina Moe, Kupu`eu, Kahiau, Kamaehu, Kuhonu, and Kua Dalire, Emalia and Enaahi Dalire: also a hanai grand-daughter from Tahiti, Violaine Moise and her son Kahikina Moise, and numerous cousins of Komomua, nieces and nephews. Services to be held at Hawaiian Memorial Mortuary at 11:00am. Visitation to begin at 10am and burial to follow at Valley of the Temple at 2:30pm.

Retired head custodian for Waialua High School. He is survived by daughters, Ipolani Kaio, Kammy (Milton) Leathers; sons, Walter S.L. "Loho" Young Jr., Timothy (Reiko) Young, David Young; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carnation Harvest, Lily Takamori, Molly Young, Charlotte Robertson, Hisako Young; brothers, George Fong, George Young, Franklin Young, Chester Young, Douglas Young, Michael Young, Matthew (Laura) Young, Melvin (Elizabeth) Young. William E. Antone

WILLIAM E. ANTONE Formerly of Hawaii, passed away March 31 2011 in San Leandro California. Born on November 2, 1928 Bill was raised by parents Emelia and Manuel in Honolulu along with brothers Able and Clifford and sisters Helen, Hazel, Bernice and Delores. He served his country in the US Air Force, was a terrific musician, an accomplished artist and horse racing aficionado. Services were held April 8th in California, but it was Bill's wish that he come home to the place he loved best, Hawaii. On April 19th at 11 am, Bill will be laid to rest at the Hawaii State Veteran's Cemetery in Kaneohe. Bill is predeceased by brother Able Antone and sister Bernice Day; he is survived by his brother, Clifford Antone, sisters Helen Whitworth, Hazel Gonsalves and Delores Santoki, longtime companion June Stephens and many nieces and nephews.
