HOPE GREGORY TROYER

HOPE GREGORY TROYER June 23, 1921 – March 28, 2011 Hope Gregory Troyer passed away in Honolulu on March 28, 2011. Born in Honolulu on June 23, 1921 to Mervyn Baxter Troyer and Fanny Gregory Troyer. She grew up in Seattle where she attended the Helen Bush School. A gifted pianist, Ms. Troyer studied music and graduated from Mills College in Oakland, California. After the War she traveled abroad and did post graduate work in Paris with the renowned classical composer Darius Milhaud. In 1954 she completed her degree in Library Science at the University of Washington. She settled in Honolulu where she taught music at the Palama Settlement and the Punahou School. Later she became the music librarian for the Honolulu Central Library, where she worked until her retirement. As a long time resident of Honolulu, Ms. Troyer cherished her time spent attending the Honolulu Symphony and the Hawaii Opera, as well as traveling to be with her family and friends on the Coast. She belonged to The Morning Music Club of Honolulu, The Honolulu Academy of Arts, the Honolulu Piano Teachers Guild, Saint Andrews Episcopal Cathedral and the Uluniu Swim Club. She is survived by her sister Suzanne Troyer MacGillivray of Spokane, Washington and will be missed by her niece Heather Haverfield and her MacGillivray nephews Scott, Andrew, Don, and Ian. Her MacGillivray great nephews and niece also survive her: Drew, Graham, Connor and Brianna. In addition she leaves her cousins Marian Boyd Cherry, Edward Gregory Cherry, their children Scott Mackay Cherry and Christine Cherry Letman and her nephews Gregory and Gordon Holmes. A grave site service and burial will be held at Diamond Head Memorial Park on April 20, 2011 at 10.00 am where she will be laid to rest beside her mother, aunts, grandparents, great uncle and great aunt.

He was born in Kona. He is survived by wife Rose; sons Henry "Smallman" Jr. and Peter; daughters Heidi Kreusling, Dina and Peterlynn Vinson, and Charlotte and Corinne David; brothers Samuel Jr., Albert and Walter David, and John Scofield; sisters Leilani Leong, Gwendolyn Walker, Marilyn Mohammed, Gwendolyn Dela Cruz, Joanne Perreira, Myra Tagami and Jacque Everett; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
